Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics

The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics (BSc. CSDF) is a four-year undergraduate programme offered by the School of Science and Technology at The Open University of Kenya. The philosophy of the programme is to facilitate learners with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to address emerging cyber threats and to holistically protect organizations' digital, computer and online assets. The emerging trends in cyber security and digital forensics continuously inform curriculum delivery and knowledge dissemination within the philosophy of openness and breaking down boundaries and barriers to learning in all their forms. The programme was developed in response to the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity manpower. Businesses are increasingly leveraging technology to deliver services including, but not limited to, financial services, collaboration services and meetings, and these emerging trends have enlarged the potential of cyber-attacks for all those who use ICT for their operations. Kenya is one of many African countries that has seen increased adoption of ICTs, made possible by the growth in Internet penetration and adoption of mobile technologies, and there is a growing threat of cybercrime combined with a widening gap between available skilled labour and market demand. The goal of the programme is to provide learners with acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for investigating security breaches and protection of information assets. On successful completion of the programme, the learner will be able to identify cyber security risks and vulnerabilities, perform digital forensics using appropriate tools, techniques and standards, protect an organization's ICT assets from external and internal attacks, and develop cybersecurity and digital forensics policies and strategies.
