Overview

The philosophy of this program is anchored on the University philosophy. This program is designed to provide highly trained scholars and practitioners in economics and statistics to all, building on prior learning. The program leverages technology enhanced learning while mitigating the effects of geographical, economic and social barriers. This program is premised on the potential of technology enhanced learning to unlock the limited access to higher education by providing affordable, flexible and continuous human capital development in the field of economics and statistics. The program is geared towards development of the workforce to meet the emerging trends on employability and transferability of knowledge and skills globally. The program is aimed to develop dynamic professionals with knowledge, skills and attitude competences geared towards solving present and emerging social-economic realities in principles and empirical aspect through research, modelling and economic analysis to inform policy and practice.

Admission Requirements

A candidate must satisfy the Open University admission criteria for undergraduate programmes.
A mean grade of C+ and above at KCSE where applicable or its equivalent using a criteria that the senate may determine.
Diplomas or professional qualifications from recognized institutions.
KCSE certificate or equivalent and a certificate of foundation or bridging courses from recognized institutions.
Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of 1 principal and subsidiary passes.
Evidence of KCSE certificate or equivalent and a portfolio for the purpose of recognition of prior learning determination with respect to: workplace training of 2 years, work experience in a relevant field of 2 years, or two short courses lasting at least 3 months each in relevant fields.
Any other qualifications that may be determined by senate recognizing prior learning leading to equivalents of the identified criteria, experience and skills of learners.
