Director of Distance Learning

Lead the strategic vision and implementation of our global distance learning programs, ensuring academic excellence and student success.

About the role

The Director of Distance Learning is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the overall strategy, development, and delivery of OUK's online academic programs. You will champion innovation in digital pedagogy and ensure our courses meet the highest standards of quality and accessibility.

You will work closely with the Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and instructional designers to create engaging, effective, and scalable learning experiences that fulfill our mission of democratizing higher education.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the university's strategic plan for distance and online learning.
  • Oversee the design, development, and evaluation of all digital courses and curricula.
  • Manage a cross-functional team of instructional designers, educational technologists, and media specialists.
  • Establish quality assurance standards and best practices for online pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate innovative technologies (e.g., AI, VR) into the learning experience.
  • Monitor student engagement, retention, and success metrics, implementing interventions as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on online or distance learning.
  • Deep understanding of adult learning theories, instructional design models, and educational technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, large-scale academic initiatives and manage budgets.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience navigating accreditation and regulatory requirements in higher education.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly research or thought leadership in digital education.
