Programme structure
The Doctor of Philosophy in Economics programme is designed to take a period of three (3) academic years of full-time study. Each academic year consists of two (2) semesters of fifteen (15) weeks each, totalling six (6) semesters. The programme shall be offered in 6 semesters with a total of 10 course units covering advanced economic theory, quantitative research methods and specialised electives, translating into approximately 840 instructional hours above the minimum CUE threshold.
Year 1 is devoted to advanced coursework in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, econometrics and research design, culminating in a comprehensive examination that qualifies the student to proceed to thesis work. Year 2 focuses on specialised electives, literature review and development of the research proposal under the supervision of an assigned supervisor. Year 3 is entirely devoted to doctoral thesis research, writing and examination before a panel of internal and external examiners.
The programme is offered online with periodic residency requirements for seminars, proposal defences and thesis examination sessions.
