Career Guidelines

Professor Grade 15 (Two positions) Application Closed

The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  1. Develop research proposals to secure grants for graduate students and staff development, enhancing existing knowledge;
  2. Conduct research and disseminate results through various channels for community and institutional benefit;
  3. Publish books and articles for teaching, reference, and further research;
  4. Review research and academic journals to support effective teaching and learning, fulfilling the University Mandate;
  5. Prepare and revise curricula to meet evolving needs and market demands;
  6. Create course descriptions, outlines, and teaching aids for effective delivery;
  7. Supervise and mentor scholars and postgraduate students to ensure quality curriculum delivery and research output;
  8. Transfer knowledge, including practical skills, for long-term benefit;
  9. Encourage critical thinking and rational discourse among students;
  10. Assess work and examinations, providing constructive feedback to students;
  11. Promote equal opportunities and address staff and student needs in teaching content and delivery;
  12. Establish collaborations and exchanges with local and international organizations and universities;
  13. Present papers and research findings at conferences to enhance the University's reputation;
  14. Provide expertise in local and international committees for informed decision-making;
  15. Guide staff in report and publication preparation at various levels within the University;
  16. Develop strategic policies and procedures to enhance training and learning effectiveness, aligning with the University's mandate;
  17. Chair committees and contribute to institutional decision-making and governance;
  18. Cultivate internal and external networks to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing;
  19. Promote departmental work nationally and internationally;
  20. Exercise academic leadership in teaching, research, and program development.

For appointment to this Grade, one MUST have: 

  1. An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. At least three (3) years of teaching experience as an Associate Professor or equivalent and research experience;
  3. A minimum of sixty (60) equivalent publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent, of which at least forty (40) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
  4. Supervised a minimum of five (5) postgraduate students to completion, including at least two (2) at doctoral level;
  5. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  6. Attracted research or development funds as an Associate Professor or equivalent.

Associate Professors Grade 14 (Four positions) Application Closed

The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  1. Teach, guide, supervise, research, and publish;
  2. Write proposals for student and staff development funding;
  3. Conduct research and disseminate findings widely;
  4. Review articles to maintain teaching quality;
  5. Refine curricula to meet market demands;
  6. Develop materials for optimal learning;
  7. Supervise scholars for quality education;
  8. Foster industry and university collaborations;
  9. Establish community knowledge links;
  10. Contribute expertise to committees;
  11. Develop policies for training efficiency;
  12. Serve as an external examiner;
  13. Assess student practical applications;
  14. Provide tutoring and mentorship to students;
  15. Lead program development for excellence.

For appointment to this Grade, one MUST have: 

  1. An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. At least three (3) years of teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer or equivalent and research experience;
  3. A minimum of forty-eight (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or equivalent of at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
  4. Supervised a minimum of four (4) postgraduate students to completion, including at least one (1) doctoral student;
  5. Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow;
  6. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  7. Have attracted research or development funds or educational resources as a Senior Lecturer or its equivalent.

Senior Lecturer Grade 13 (Seven positions) Application Closed

The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  1. Engage in research, publication, teaching, and student supervision to fulfill University objectives;
  2. Develop grant-worthy research proposals for internal and external funding;
  3. Collaborate with local, regional, and international partners to address societal issues;
  4. Disseminate research findings through journal publications for public knowledge sharing;
  5. Train, mentor, and evaluate students to ensure high-quality research output;
  6. Review research proposals to enhance their grant attractiveness;
  7. Serve as an external examiner to promote academic exchange and excellence;
  8. Provide consultancy services to address community challenges and contribute to societal development;
  9. Acquire patents for innovations to protect Intellectual Property rights;
  10. Collaborate with staff to enhance course delivery quality and monitoring;
  11. Develop adaptable teaching models to ensure effective and continuous learning;
  12. Assess student progress through course evaluations and examinations;
  13. Identify and procure relevant learning resources to enhance teaching quality;
  14. Develop practical modules aligned with the curriculum for hands-on learning;
  15. Initiate community development projects and establish funding linkages for University projects.

For appointment to this Grade, one MUST have: 

 

  1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. At least three (3) years of teaching experience as a Lecturer or equivalent and research experience or six (6) years in research/ industry experience;
  3. A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
  4. Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent;
  5. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  6. Attracted research or development funds;
  7. In-depth professional/discipline-specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge of several fields.

Lecturers Grade 12 (Sixteen Positions) Application Closed

The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  1. Conduct research, publish findings, and mentor students to meet University goals;
  2. Create innovative research proposals to secure funding and elevate student research opportunities;
  3. Produce scholarly publications to enhance professional growth and University research ranking;
  4. Advocate for innovative teaching methods both locally and globally;
  5. Lead research projects addressing community challenges and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration;
  6. Secure research funding and provide high-quality supervision for students;
  7. Design and implement curriculum for industry-ready graduates;
  8. Organize practical learning experiences and supervise Teaching Assistants;
  9. Set and moderate examinations to ensure quality academic standards;
  10. Provide individualized support to improve student performance and address their needs;
  11. Engage students in critical thinking and meaningful discourse;
  12. Undertake consultancies and showcase innovations to enhance the University's reputation;
  13. Establish collaborative partnerships for resource mobilization and community engagement;
  14. Present research findings internationally and contribute to societal development through volunteerism;
  15. Contribute to University management, administrative processes, and student well-being.

For appointment to this Grade, one MUST have: 

 

  1. An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. Served for a cumulative period of six (6) year three (3) of which in the Grade of Tutorial Fellow/ Junior Research Fellow in the relevant field;
  3. A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers and;
  4. Registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  5. In-depth professional/discipline-specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge in a number of fields;

Tutorial Fellow Grade 11 (Eight positions)Application Closed

The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  1. Develop research proposals and publish problem-solving publications;
  2. Attend conferences to share knowledge and build collaborations;
  3. Provide consultancy services connecting with industry;
  4. Supervise research projects and evaluate Undergraduate project defenses;
  5. Foster collaborations with industry and other universities;
  6. Manage grants, research teams, and project expenses;
  7. Conduct practical activities for real-world learning and design experiments;
  8. Prepare course outlines and recommend relevant teaching materials;
  9. Provide learner support, curate content, and develop teaching materials aligned with the syllabus;
  10. Lecture to explain course content and set/administer assessments and exams;
  11. Moderate and invigilate exams to ensure fairness, mark exams, and grade students;
  12. Mentor students in their Undergraduate projects and supervise student attachments/internships;
  13. Present articles at relevant forums and engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities like environmental conservation;
  14. Plan weekly course content delivery and participate in Departmental and School Boards;
  15. Support student innovations for entrepreneurship and social progress.

 

   For appointment to this Grade, one MUST have: 

 

  1. A Masters and Bachelor’s degree qualifications in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. A minimum period of three (3) years relevant work experience in the Grade of Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant or a comparable position;
  3. Be registered or registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree qualification;
  4. Be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  5. In-depth professional/discipline-specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge in a number of fields;
  6. Proficiency in ICT.
