Rift Valley Technical Training Institute Explores Partnership with Open University of Kenya
Konza Technopolis, Kenya — March 12, 2025
The Open University of Kenya (OUK) on Monday March 11th, 2025, hosted a delegation from the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) at Konza Technopolis. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the two institutions, with discussions centered on a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The meeting focused on strengthening ties in areas such as curriculum development, research and leveraging technology to enhance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. Both institutions emphasized the importance of equipping learners with modern skills to meet the evolving demands of Kenya's dynamic job market.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Caroline Omulando, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs at OUK, said, “This partnership is an idea whose time has come. In this era of Artificial Intelligence, it is crucial for institutions like ours to collaborate and empower students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills. Together, we can prepare learners from both OUK and RVTTI for the jobs of tomorrow.”
Mr. Stephen Kemboi, Project/Collaboration Coordinator at RVTTI, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “I am excited about the programmes offered by OUK because they align so well with the facilities and content we have at RVTTI. This collaboration will address the needs of today’s students — a tech-savvy generation ready to embrace innovation and modern learning approaches.”
The partnership aims to merge OUK’s flexible, technology-driven learning model with RVTTI’s strong foundation in hands-on technical training, creating a seamless academic pathway for students pursuing careers in technical fields.
Further engagements are planned to finalize the MOU, outlining specific areas of cooperation and joint initiatives.
