Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Lead the design of intuitive user interfaces for web and mobile applications using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch, conducting user research and creating wireframes and prototypes to guide the software development team.
  2. Produce, edit, and optimise high-quality multimedia content including educational videos, motion graphics, and 2D/3D animations for the university portals.
  3. Collaborate with Full Stack Developers to translate visual designs into functional web interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles.
  4. Ensure consistency of the University's visual identity across all digital platforms, creating standard style guides and asset libraries as part of Brand Identity Management.
  5. Audit and design digital media to ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), ensuring content is consumable by users with visual or hearing impairments.
     

Required Qualifications and Competencies

For appointment to this grade, one MUST have:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Interactive Media Technologies, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field from an accredited and recognized University is required.
  2. A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in UI/UX design, video editing, and graphic design is mandatory.
  3. Mastery in Design tools e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects) is required.
  4. Proficiency in Prototyping using tools like Figma, Sketch, or InVision is essential.
  5. Solid understanding of Web Technologies is necessary, utilising HTML5, CSS3 (SASS/LESS), and basic JavaScript for interaction design.
  6. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are necessary.
  7. Outstanding organisational skills and a meticulous attention to detail are required.

 Essential Professional Certifications

  1. Adobe Certified Professional qualification (Visual Design or Video Design).
  2. Google UX Design Professional Certificate qualification.
  3. CIW (Certified Internet Web Professional) – User Interface Designer qualification.
  4. Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g) UX Certification qualification.
  5. CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) qualification.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

  1. All applications should be submitted with an Application Letter, a detailed Curriculum Vitae indicating academic qualifications, professional experience, academic leadership, list of publications, awards, scholarships, funding, membership to professional associations or bodies and linkages, valid email addresses, telephone contacts, copies of certificates, National ID, and other testimonials; These shall be uploaded at the relevant attachment sections within the OUK recruitment portal.
  2. Applicants with degrees from foreign Universities MUST attach letter(s) of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the application document.
  3. Only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted and shall be required to ask three (3) of their referees to share references directly to the University using a system mechanism that shall be provided.
  4. Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya will be upheld and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
Note that the Terms of Service will be either Permanent and Pensionable OR Contract, as shall be determined by the University Council.
