Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conduct research, publish findings, and mentor students to meet University goals;
  2. Create innovative research proposals to secure funding and elevate student research opportunities;
  3. Produce scholarly publications to enhance professional growth and University research ranking;
  4. Advocate for innovative teaching methods both locally and globally;
  5. Lead research projects addressing community challenges and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration;
  6. Secure research funding and provide high-quality supervision for students;
  7. Design and implement curriculum for industry-ready graduates;
  8. Organize practical learning experiences and supervise Teaching Assistants;
  9. Set and moderate examinations to ensure quality academic standards;
  10. Provide individualized support to improve student performance and address their needs;
  11. Engage students in critical thinking and meaningful discourse;
  12. Undertake consultancies and showcase innovations to enhance the University's reputation;
  13. Establish collaborative partnerships for resource mobilization and community engagement;
  14. Present research findings internationally and contribute to societal development through volunteerism;
  15. Contribute to University management, administrative processes, and student well-being.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

For appointment to this grade, one MUST have:
  1. An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited university recognized by the OUK Senate;
  2. Served for a cumulative period of six (6) years, three (3) of which in the Grade of Tutorial Fellow/ Junior Research Fellow in the relevant field;
  3. A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers and;
  4. Registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  5. In-depth professional/discipline-specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge in a number of fields.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

  1. All applications should be submitted with an Application Letter, a detailed Curriculum Vitae indicating academic qualifications, professional experience, academic leadership, list of publications, awards, scholarships, funding, membership to professional associations or bodies and linkages, valid email addresses, telephone contacts, copies of certificates, National ID, and other testimonials; These shall be uploaded at the relevant attachment sections within the OUK recruitment portal.
  2. Applicants with degrees from foreign Universities MUST attach letter(s) of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the application document.
  3. Only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted and shall be required to ask three (3) of their referees to share references directly to the University using a system mechanism that shall be provided.
  4. Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya will be upheld and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
Note that the Terms of Service will be either Permanent and Pensionable OR Contract, as shall be determined by the University Council.
