Senior Accountant
Duties
- Prepare the annual report and financial statements in compliance with IPSAS standards.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports along with the corresponding Council reports.
- Serve as the liaison officer for both internal and external audit exercises.
- Lead the preparation of annual and revised recurrent and capital development budgets.
- Financial reporting of research grants, donors and other collaborative activities.
- Organize and manage accounting sections, including directing, controlling, and coordinating routine and non-routine accounting activities.
- Interpret financial policies, administer budgetary control systems, and implement management accounting processes.
- Lead the implementation and management of the finance modules within the ERP system.
- Provide advice on financial policies to ensure sound accounting practices and compliance with relevant financial laws and regulations.
- Train, mentor, and develop finance staff.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
For appointment to this grade, one MUST have:
Must Have
- A Master’s Degree from a recognized University in a relevant field such as Accounting, finance or Business Administration and;
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in a relevant field such as Accounting, finance or Business Administration.
- CPA (K) and nine (9) years’ experience, three (3) of which Must be at the level of Accountant 1 grade 12 or equivalent from a comparable institution.
- Registered with ICPAK and in good standing.
- Active engagement in preparation of budgets, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Shown merit and ability reflected in work performance and results.
- Certificate in proficiency of application of ERP systems and Advanced Excel in processing transactions.
- Knowledge of grant cost applications, donor financial management, and compliance with donor regulations will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, 2012 (regulations 2015), Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015, local taxation laws and all other laws governing management and financial reporting.

- Applicants with degrees from foreign Universities MUST attach letter(s) of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the application document.

Note that the Terms of Service will be either Permanent and Pensionable OR Contract, as shall be determined by the University Council.
