The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has successfully concluded a week-long Course Content Development Workshop held at the Machakos University Hotel and Conference Centre from Monday, 12th May 2025. The Workshop brought together academic experts from over thirty universities, institutions and industry players to collaboratively develop and refine first, second, and third-year course content across various academic programmes.

Organised under the leadership of the Academic Affairs Division, the intensive Workshop aimed at streamlining and enhancing the quality of academic materials for the University’s digital learning model. Participants were provided with a comprehensive checklist referred to as the Module Validation Framework which served as a standard guide for content development. The framework ensured alignment with academic and industry requirements, clarity in learning outcomes and consistency across disciplines.

Throughout the Workshop, peer-to-peer reviews were conducted to maintain content quality and encourage cross-disciplinary learning. Daily progress was closely monitored using an online tool designed to track completion rates and ensure timely delivery. The content development exercise spanned all programmes offered by the School of Education, the School of Science and Technology and the School of Business and Economics.

The next phase involves a rigorous content validation process, followed by digitisation and uploading of the modules onto the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), enabling students to access interactive, high-quality online learning materials. This initiative marks a critical milestone in the University’s commitment to delivering inclusive, flexible and accessible university education through technology-driven platforms.
