Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Agritechnology and Food Systems is an interdisciplinary programme designed to prepare professionals to address current and emerging challenges in agricultural production, food systems, climate change and food and nutritional security.
The programme integrates agricultural science, technology, innovation and food systems to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop and apply climate-smart and sustainable technologies in crop and livestock production and across food value chains.
Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical activities, special projects and industrial attachment, the programme develops professionals who can contribute to sustainable agricultural transformation, improve productivity and support the availability of safe, affordable and nutritious food.

Mahitaji ya kujiunga
A candidate must satisfy the general University admission criteria for undergraduate programmes.
A mean grade of C+ and above at KCSE OR
Diplomas or professional qualifications OR
A certificate of foundation or bridging courses from recognised institutions OR
A portfolio for the purpose of Recognition of Prior Learning OR
Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of 1 Principal OR
A Bachelors degree from an institution recognised by Senate.

Muundo wa programu
The programme shall be offered in 8 semesters and at least 16 weeks of industrial attachment (after Year 2 Semester 2 and Year 3 Semester 2), comprising four (4) Academic Years. The minimum total courses for the programme are 46 and the minimum total course credit hours required for graduation is 3450 hours (138 credits).
Year 1 introduces core courses that delve into concepts and principles in agritechnology and food systems alongside one University common course.
Year 2 courses develop skills and proficiency among learners in agritechnology tools and techniques; it also includes one common University course and an 8-week industrial attachment and Field Practice I (post-Semester 2), requiring completion of all courses.
Year 3 includes advanced specialised courses and topics that enable learners to utilize technologies and practices for sustainable agri-food systems; it also includes one University common course and an 8-week industrial attachment and Field Practice II (post-Semester 2).
Year 4 courses focus on skill transferability, innovations, entrepreneurship and research at an advanced level enabling the learner to solve current and emerging challenges in the agricultural sector; it includes a research project spread in both Semester 1 and 2 as well as one common University course.
Year 1 has 10 courses (30 credits), Year 2 has 12 courses (36 credits), Year 3 has 12 courses (36 credits) and Year 4 has 12 courses (36 credits).

The programme will be assessed through:
(a) Content embedded quizzes;
(b) Online practical work;
(c) Open book tests;
(d) Submitted reports (practicum, industrial attachment, projects and community service) and;
(e) End of course online examination.
The continuous or progressive course assessment is graded at a maximum score of 50% each semester, while the end of semester exam is graded at a maximum score of 50%, except the research project report and industrial attachment which have no coursework and are graded at 100%.
The total score of 100% for each course each semester is graded on the following scale:
a) 75 to 100 = A (Excellent);
b) 65 to <75 = B (Good);
c) 55 to <65 = C (Fair);
d) 50 to <55 = D (Pass);
e) 0 to <50 = E (Fail).
