The philosophy of the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence programme centres on flexibility, inclusivity, quality education, practical learning and ethical responsibility. The programme is designed to prepare learners to be technically skilled and socially conscious, ready to make use of the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle complex challenges across various sectors of the economy. It offers a flexible online learning structure, allowing students to learn at their own pace, place and time. The curriculum emphasizes both rigorous academic instruction and practical, hands-on experience through projects and industry collaborations. Inclusivity and diversity are fundamental, creating an environment where students from all backgrounds can collaborate and bring unique perspectives. Ethical responsibility is woven throughout the programme, focusing on fairness, transparency, legal and ethical requirements, and societal impact, ensuring that graduates are not only competent in Artificial Intelligence but also committed to using their skills for the greater good. The programme is designed to address the growing demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts in industries and society at large. AI is now being applied in all sectors of the economy including healthcare, education, manufacturing, agriculture, traffic control and security. The curriculum is comprehensive, covering foundational and advanced topics in artificial intelligence, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications, including projects and case studies that provide practical experience and foster industry partnerships. This hands-on approach ensures graduates are well-equipped with industry-relevant skills, strengthening their employability in the AI driven economy. The programme encourages sustainability and research, inviting students to explore new frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and contribute to the broader goals of sustainable development. The goal of the programme is to equip students with the advanced knowledge, practical skills, and ethical grounding needed to implement innovative solutions using artificial intelligence, producing graduates who are proficient in technical areas like machine learning, robotics, embedded systems and natural language processing, while also being mindful of the broader societal implications of their work. The Master of Science Degree in Artificial Intelligence is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in developing solutions to societal challenges using artificial intelligence, and will produce experts that will be competitive at a global level and help the country to harness the promise of AI.

- PLO1: Describe the AI techniques involved in solving real world problems.
- PLO2: Employ research to propose, study, interpret and infer artificial intelligence solutions to stay current with evolving AI technologies.
- PLO3: Create Artificial Intelligence based solutions to address challenges in society, demonstrating independent learning abilities as well as teamwork.
- PLO4: Evaluate Artificial Intelligence solutions used in different societal settings.
Mahitaji ya kujiunga
- Holders of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics & Statistics, Physics with at least Upper Second Class Honours of the Open University of Kenya or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Open University of Kenya Senate.
- Holders of a degree, recognised by the Senate with at least Upper Second Class Honours in Earth & Climate Sciences, Education, Arts & Social Science, Public Health or any other related programme with proof of having covered an acceptable minimum number of mathematics or computer science course units will be evaluated individually by the School of Academic Committee.
- Holders of a bachelor's degree with at least a pass degree of the Open University of Kenya or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Senate plus two years relevant work experience.
- A candidate who has obtained a Bachelor's Degree with at least a 2nd Class Honors, Upper Division of the Open University of Kenya, or an equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by the University Senate as of comparable academic status, or a Bachelor's Degree (2nd Class Honors, Lower Division) with two (2) years' experience in a relevant field.
- Any other qualifications that may be determined by Senate recognising prior learning leading to equivalents of the identified criteria, experience and skills of learners.

Muundo wa programu
The programme spans over two academic years, divided into four academic semesters, and shall be offered in 4 semesters. The total course credits for the programme are 64 and the total course contact hours required for graduation is 960 instructional hours.

- content embedded quizzes
- end of course online examination. The project is assessed through e-portfolios. For taught course units, the complete assessment consists of coursework

- Experts supporting national development goals such as Kenya's Vision 2030 and the Digital Economy Blueprint, which prioritize technological skills for economic growth
- Roles involving smart agriculture (monitoring and optimizing consumption of resources such as water, fertilizers and pest control solutions), smart transport systems (optimizing traffic flow), health (predicting epidemics and suggesting optimal interventions) and security (monitoring crime and identifying suspects)
